This video demonstrates how a Personal Escape/Safety System can be used to rescue a victim – Whether the victim is a Civilian or a fellow Firefighter. It’s important to note that Escape Systems are designed for a single use/single load application. The techniques shown in this video are meant to be used as a last resort to save lives when no other options are available. This video describes how to rig the Personal Escape System that I use not only in the videos that I have posted, but also on the job. It is just one alternative of many. Regardless of wether you assemble your own or purchase a commercially made escape system, it is essential that you practice to the point where you can deploy your system quickly and efficiently in the worst of all conditions. The system you carry should never be used for training – Only in a real life emergency. A second separate system should be set up specifically for training purposes. An assembled system that is pre-attached to an escape belt or seat harness is better than one that is not – Remember the fewer the steps necessary to negotiate your egress or escape the better. Rigging your system for alternate rescue and anchoring options increases it’s versatility. Knowing you can use your escape system not only to rescue yourself, but also a fellow firefighter or civilian can help further justify the expense of purchasing one.
