LSPD initiated a pursuit for a traffic violation. The driver fled leading police on a chase ending in Lake Station at Central and Benton with the help of stop sticks. The perp crashed into an innocent victims pick-up throwing it into a parking lot almost into the building. The perp had to be extricated and both parties were transported to St. Marys Medical Center in Hobart. Central between Benton and Clay was closed for several hours for investigations and clean-up
Watch for a fairly large explosion around 3:38. Truck 13 was dispatched to a reported brush fire at 2994 Burr at about 10:40am on 11-11-09, on arrival Truck 13 requested a full still for a working fire in a makeshift storage building loaded with oil, gasoline, acetylene tanks, and car parts. Multiple lines were stretched to bring the fire under control along with the use of a front end loader used to open the “building”. Nobody was injured at the fire scene and investigators were on scene working. Awesome job done by GFD, 1st turn

FD crews were dispatched to a reported fast moving fire on the rear balcony of a 3 story multi-unit apartment building. On arrival crews advised of a working fire to the rear of the building. Crews made an aggressive interior attack, but were forced out within minutes. The fire progressed into the roof and breeze way consuming the entire building. Crews from Lake Station, New Chicago, Portage, and South Haven assisted and no injuries were reported. Fire investigators were working on the cause, initial reports showed outdoor cooking may have started the fire
At 10:35pm on Valentine’s Day GFD was toned out for the smell of smoke at 24th and Tyler, while en route dispatched filled the assignment out to a still. On arrival heavy smoke was visible in the area and shortly after a working house fire was found. While crews made an aggressive attack with tank water they had to stop and wait for a good hydrant. After a positive water source was established the fire was quickly knocked. Nobody was injured at the scene. Great job by GFD!
It is amazing that nobody called the fire department on this one! Battalion 7 comes across the radio advising of a working house fire at 24th and Clay, on arrival first due Engine 12 grabbed a hydrant and made short work of the fire using two lines. Nobody was injured at the fire scene

While checking out a fire in Lake Station that I had missed a dark header was visible just south of Ridge Rd and I-65 then Gary toned out for a reported still alarm at 1331 East 50th Place. It was quite evident there was a working fire from where I was. Engine 5 being first on scene advised of a working fire in an attached garage to a 2 story frame dwelling. Thankfully there was a hydrant right by the fire and a water source was established. Multiple lines were stretched and the fire was brought under control without injuries. One exposure suffered damage and nobody was in the original fire building.

FD crews were dispatched to a report of heavy smoke in the rear of an occupied house, before FD members arrived on scene the residents had escaped. On arrival Engine 3 advised of heavy smoke showing and fire soon engulfed the whole first floor. In a short amount of time the fire had extended to the 2nd floor and through the roof. An offensive attack was made and multiple lines were used to bring the fire under control. Nobody was injured at the scene.

GFD Ambulance 401 was dispatched to a reported car accident on Broadway over 80-94, police being first on scene advised of a victim trapped. GFD dispatched Squad 2, Truck 4, and Engine 4 to assist with extrication. The victim was removed within 5 minutes of arriving on scene and transported to Methodist North Lake Hospital. Crews remained on scene for about 20 minutes.

At 6pm crews were dispatched to a reported still alarm at 1118 Aetna Street, on arrival Engine 7 advised of smoke showing and a working fire. The building was laddered and crews advanced lines into the front and rear of the building, before water was on the fire in the rear apartment a box of unknown caliber ammunition started going off. Investigators found multiple points of origin in two separate apartments. The fire was brought under control within an hour and nobody was injured.
