This is a vid of a new fire fighter having difficulty with the annual testing of a hydrant. The difficulty is due to circumstances beyond his control… but we didn’t tell him that!

Just before 2am Engine 17 Engine 5 and Medic 17 were called out for a rollover MVA with Ejection. Upon arrival they found a vehicle which had rolled out of control knocking over a pole and breaking a fire hydrant. One person was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

A New York City traffic enforcement tow truck driver, whose job it is to summons and tow civilian vehicles that violate parking laws, parks his official vehicle blocking a fire hydrant and creates a public safety hazard while he goes into a restaurant to order his lunch. If an ordinary hard working New Yorker would park blocking a hydrant, they would receive a 5 summons and would risk getting their vehicle towed to the impound. In NYC , parking enforcement is a big business raking in 600 million dollars a year.When those traffic cops who are supposed to enforce the laws openly flout the laws, it makes a joke out of the entire system

Some laws may seem spurious and arcane.Other laws are very logical.For example , New York City vehicle and traffic law prohibits a motorist from parking his vehicle within 15 feet of a fire hydrant.This is not rocket science here.Obviously the law is in place to save lives by creating a zone for firemen to access the water and do their job as expeditiously as possible.It is a public safety hazard to block a fire hydrant.What if a fire were to break out?
