Around midnight GFD was toned out for a still alarm at 29th and Calhoun, on arrival Truck 13 advised of a working fire in a large two story commercial building and requested a box alarm. A repo guy sitting in his truck in the area saw a male run-up to the building and throw a firebomb into the building. After access was made crews fought the fire from every angle with multiple lines. Crews were on scene for over an hour and fire investigators responded. Nobody was injured at the fire scene

At 10:35pm crews were dispatched to a reported still alarm in the 2300 block of Wheeler, on arrival Engine 13 advised of a working house fire. Multiple lines were stretched and an interior search was initiated and came up negative. Crews worked on the scene for about an hour. A traffic stop was attempted by Lake County Police at approximately 40th and Grant in Gary Indiana, but the perp fled in a slow speed chase that went from 40th to the 13200 block of Indiana. Stop strips were deployed once at 71st and Merrillville Road which the perp avoided, the second set of strips were deployed at 93rd and Monroe which worked. The car came to a rest at 132nd. The perp was taken into custody after a short struggle. A crack pipe was found by officers in the front seat of the stolen car. The perp actually admitted to smoking crack while the pursuit was in progress. He is facing multiple charges.

Crews were dispatched to a reported still alarm just after 8pm, Engine 13 advised of heavy smoke while exiting the fire station. On arrival an aggressive attack was made and crews from Truck 4 opened the roof. The fire was brought under control quickly and nobody was injured at the fire scene.

At about 11pm GFD toned out for a car fire behind 600 East 21st Ave, on arrival fire was found in the engine compartment of a Cadillac, Engine quickly dropped a line and knocked fire down. Nobody was injured at the fire scene.

Well the year is over and GFD broke 7000 runs. I made this video to show what the Firefighters and Paramedics go through on almost a daily basis. Crews were dispatched to a reported house fire in the 2500 block of Marshalltown Dr. a second call gave an address of 2500 block of East 22nd ave, the second address was correct. Engine 12′s crew pulled a line and quickly knocked the fire without incident. Nobody was injured at the vacant house fire

Engine 4 was dispatched for smoke in the area at around 6pm in the area of 22nd and Broadway, on arrival they found smoke coming from a mens shelter at 2120 Broadway and a full still was sent. They found a small trash fire and knocked it down quickly. Four hours later Enine 4 was dispatched for smoke in the area at 21st and Broadway, on arrival they requested a full still for heavy smoke coming from the same building. The fire quickly consumed the entire building and took the roof with it. Multiple companies fought the fire for over an hour and nobody was injured at the fire scene. Investigators were also requested.
