On 9-27-09 GFD was toned out for a reported still alarm at 2626 Stephenson, on arrival crews reported a working fire in a garage and multiple semi trailers. Multiple lines were pulled from Gary Engine 12 and Lake Ridge. The fire was brought under control with no injuries and fire investigators were on scene working.
While returning from a trailer fire I heard GFD tone out for a reported car fire in the arear of 20th and Chase, a thick black header was visible from a mile away. Crews from Engine 4 put a quick knock on the fire and nobody was hurt. While they were working, a rubbernecker slammed head-on with another vehicle just down the street. GPD was on scene asap, it appeared there were no injuries at the crash.
Crews were dispatched to a reported trailer fire at 3650 West Ridge Rd Lot 8 in the early afternoon. It was quite evident there was a working fire due to the header. Crews were lucky to find a hydrant a couple blocks away, but the trailer was already fully involved on arrival. Multiple lines were stretched to contain the fire in two trailers. Two victims were transported, one with burns and a second with cardiac problems. Great job by the crews from 1st turn considering no hydrants near the scene and high winds. By rights the whole trailer park should have went…… Not with GFD Working!
GFD was dispatched to a reported still alarm in the area of Ridge and Whitcomb, on arrival Truck 13 advised of a working trailer fire. Due to the lack of hydrants in the trailer park Lake Ridge FD was requested. Crews initiated an interior attack until they ran out of water, when Lake Ridge arrived with their tanker the fire was brought under control. Nobody was hurt at the fire scene and investigators were on scene working.
