At around 2:30pm crews from station 2 were dispatched to a reported garage fire at 2700 Allen, on arrival Fire 6 advised of heavy smoke showing from a frame garage. After a few seconds residents were able to restrain a dog on the property and and fire crews arrived on scene. One line was stretched to bring the fire und…er control. Multiple witnesses confirmed kids were in the garage just before it was engulfed in flames, arson investigators and police detectives were on scene working. There were no injuries reported at the fire scene

GFD was dispatched to a working house fire in the 3100 Block of Gerry, on arrival Truck 13 advised of smoke showing. Engine 3 and 9 supplied their tank water until Lake Ridge Tanker 3 arrived on scene to assist, there were no hydrants found in the area. Gary Engine 4 was also requested to assist. Nobody was injured at the fire scene and all residents made it out in time

On 1/12/2010 the southside companies were dispatched for a garage fire on West Fairview St Piedmont, WV. Engine 24 arrived on the scene and D/C 24 Hamilton established the Fairview St Command. Command advised Smoke showing from the building. Engine Tanker 22 responded with 6 and D/C Kight. 24′s engine crew pulled an 1 3/4″ attack line to knock down the small fire in the rear of the garage. A wood stove vent pipe caught the wooden wall behind the stove on fire. The fire extended up the rear wall to the ceiling. The 22 crew assisted with overhaul and checking for further extension. The fire was quickly knocked down and units returned to service within 30 minutes. Units that were on the scene: Engine 24-11, Engine 24-13, Engine Tanker 22, Engine 22, Engine 361, Engine Tanker 19 and EMS 50.

Although a crude electric carriage was originally created in Scotland in the late 1830s, the first functional electric car in the United States was produced in 1891. For the next decade, the clean, quiet electric car was the king of the road. In 1899, an electric car broke the vehicular land speed record, and by 1900, there were more electric cars than any other kind in the US, accounting for 38% of the nations car market. Jay still uses his Bakers original Edison batteries. In 1898, the same year that gasoline-powered vehicles first appeared, automotive innovator Walter C. Baker started the Baker Motor Vehicle Company in Cleveland, Ohio to produce his electric cars. His company went on to manufacture more electric vehicles than any other company in history, despite the fact that it ceased production of them in 1916. Baker presented the first ever shaft-driven automobile at the first American auto show at Madison Square Garden, and is said to have sold his first electric car to Thomas Edison, who developed its batteries. Jay still uses his 1909 Bakers original Edison batteries. He just washes them out occasionally and refills them, and they work fine. The essentially maintenance-free Baker Electric was a high coupe with carriage styling, brass fittings and tillers instead of steering wheels.
