Four air-tankers, two smaller attack planes and 25 fire engines from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection were headed to the blaze, the agency said. Off-duty firefighters, some of them without their protective gear, were battling the blaze alongside overwhelmed crews from the small San Bruno Fire Department, according to news reports. Huge orange balls of flames were billowing into the nighttime sky. Residents reported a huge shake, as if an earthquake struck when the blaze broke out. The radiant heat from the flames could be felt several blocks away, according to residents. The blaze, which broke out shortly after 6 pm, may have been caused by a large gas line explosion, said a spokesman with Pacific Gas and Electric. The Blood Center of the Pacific issued an emergency and asked for people to donate blood Friday morning. At San Francis Hospital in San Francisco, a major burn center, two patients were in critical

www.germanshepherdworld.org ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Alaska State Troopers are presenting a special award to Buddy, a German Shepherd that led authorities to a fire at his owners’ property near Willow. Buddy will receive the engraved silver-plated dog bowl Friday afternoon in Anchorage. Troopers say Buddy and his owner, 23-year-old Ben Heinrichs, were in the family workshop on the Caswell Lakes property April 4 when a heater ignited chemicals . Heinrichs, who sustained minor flash burns on his face, dashed out as the fire grew. He then told Buddy “we need to get help.” The dog took off and eventually found a trooper responding to a call about the fire. Buddy led the officer through winding back roads to the house and the trooper guided firefighters to the scene. The workshop was destroyed, but only some window trim on the house was damaged. www.germanshepherdworld.org

*WE CALLED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT FOR SAFETY AND THE ELECTRIC COMPANY BEFORE WE STARTED FILMING!!!!!* My husband and I stopped to look at some pallets about a block from our house and my husband heard weird buzzing. The tree across the street was blowing into a high voltage power line and catching on fire. We called the Bellingham FIRE DEPARTMENT about 10 minutes before we started filming- many people called. (Puget Sound Energy was also called) They showed up about 5 minutes after we stopped filming. They missed the big show! No one got hurt. The power was out for a few hours while the tree was cut down. The family that lived in the house next to the tree evacuated long before we started filming. What an insane thing to see. Neighbours from 4+ blocks away were coming to see what was going on because they could FEEL and hear the first explosion. Nuts.
