Detroit Firefighters were on the scene of a blaze that destroyed a vacant commercial building on the city’s southwest side. Shortly after 3:30am on December 9th; Firefighters were dispatched to a report of a fire at 101 Forman street. When they arrived, they found heavy smoke and fire in a vacant building on Morton Salt property. Firefighter’s efforts to connect to fire hydrants was hampered because many of the hydrants were not operational. Luckily, nobody was hurt.

DETROIT- Firefighters were called to the scene of a fire in an apartment building on Detroit’s east side. When firefighters arrived, the found this apartment building with fire on two floors and heavy black smoke. Firefighters initially tried to battle the blaze from the inside of the building but the fire was too dangerous and they had to retreat. A Firefighter tells me that there was a fire in this building earlier in the day and the cause of this fire was likely a rekindle. I have not received any reports of any injuries.

On Sept 3 2008 just after 3am, a box alarm was dispatched to Garfield and Woodward. E5 arrived and reported fire going throughout a large 4 sty apt bldg and requested a 2nd alarm. We were at another fire and heard E5 call for the 2nd, so we bolted and headed downtown….
www.highlandwire.org On July 14, 2008 four suspects opened fire on a Detroit residential street then headed for McDonalds. There, two of the suspects engaged in a shootout with pursuing Detroit police officers. During the chaos, one of the suspects carjacked a vehicle, and then caused a four-car collision while speeding off. Several blocks later, the carjacker hit a fire hydrant, raised a weapon towards officers, and was shot and killed. http
Workers in Detroit and Highland Park denounced the conditions of decay in these cities and the policies of utility monopolies in cutting off services to those who cannot pay for contributing to the tragic deaths of four people in a house fire here.
