Fire crews from Highland and Griffith FD’s battled a stuborn basement fire that destroyed a 1 story brick ranch at 3025 Garfield, all residents got out in time. Multiple lines were pulled and the master stream was used to knock the fire down. Crews remained on scene for several hours and investigators were on scene working. Nobody was injured at the fire scene
Crews were dispatched to a reported basement fire in the 2500 Block of Newton around 6pm, Car 2 being first on scene advised of a working fire in a 1.5 story frame dwelling. At that point station 2 was dispatched and New Chicago FD was put on stand-by. When crews arrived two lines were advanced and the fire was quickly brought under control. All residents were self evacuated and nobody was injured at the fire scene.

GFD was toned out for a reported fire in the 3700 block of Delaware, on arrival Engine 4 advised of a working basement fire. Not long after the fire traveled the walls all the way to the attic which made for a difficult attack. Multiple lines were stretched into the dwelling to bring the fire under control. The house appeared vacant and all searches were negative. Awesome job by Gary FD!

At 10:35pm on Valentine’s Day GFD was toned out for the smell of smoke at 24th and Tyler, while en route dispatched filled the assignment out to a still. On arrival heavy smoke was visible in the area and shortly after a working house fire was found. While crews made an aggressive attack with tank water they had to stop and wait for a good hydrant. After a positive water source was established the fire was quickly knocked. Nobody was injured at the scene. Great job by GFD!
