When we arrived at the scene at this time the left part of the building was still smoking *** A 5-Alarm Fire broke out 4:30am Sunday November 22, 2009. The fire was started accidentally in the 3 story apartment building. It was started under the roof in an area known as the cockloft, located on the second floor by an unattended an open-flame candle in apartment B21 that caught a curtain or blanket on fire at the Austin Manor apartments at 7024 Rising Sun Avenue between Tyson and Princeton Avenues in the city’s Lawncrest section. Responders were at the apartment complex with in 4 minutes but the building was already fully engulfed. Most residents were out on the sidewalk while others were rescued by firefighters or forced to jump from the windows to safety. More than 100 people were evacuated and was said that 19 people had to be rushed to the hospital with various injuries. Four were in stable condition, & Three were in serious condition with severe burns. Injuries range from burns to smoke inhalation, to trauma from jumping from upper floor windows. This is not the first time this apartment complex has caught fire with the same exact cause of a candle in October of 2001 though it was the other building. burned out of control for more than 90 minutes The building is a total loss.

NFD Engine 9-5 responds to a 1st due apartment fire with reports of subjects trapped. Not much action after arrival, but you can hear the radio transmissions from the 1st in crew. Fortunately all subjects were removed from the apartment prior to FD arrival, and 9-5′s crew made a quick knock.

Our Disaster Action Teams worked diligently through the early hours of the morning on July 21st to help multiple families as they are forced from their apartments when a fire started in a 20-unit complex.

Anzhelika and David now out jail after being arrested for trying to save Anzhelika’s friend’s cat from the fire… why didn’t he just get a warning? He has a broken collar bone and he got arrested and handcuffed and hurt more… spent his whole paycheck on bail out money and I watched the bailman counting cash right there behind the glass window… Montgomery County Jail is not part of the Bail bond system and that is run by the City of Dayton… listen to person on video behind glass inside.
