The firefighter was taken to University Hospital to receive treatment for smoke inhalation and a cut to his face, said Lt. Ken Heffernan, a fire investigator with the Syracuse Fire Department.

Heffernan would not release the firefighter’s name.

The firefighter became trapped upstairs at the two-family home at 3009 S. Salina St., he said. “He may have run out of air,” Heffernan said.
