205 Towed Away! + 206 & 207 Turnout, Pitt Street, 24 Aug 09

I was much bemused to come across this unusual scene! A Scania with lowloader trailer backed up to Central Fire Station, winching 205 out with the help of Ace Towing 01. A slightly more leisurely departure than 205 is accustomed to! Fire Police were there to keep traffic flowing, as Pitt Street’s four lanes were narrowed to one at the intersection with Greys Ave. To add to the occasion, Auckland 207 and 206 were called out mid-proceedings, putting a brief halt on things… I hope its nothing serious, though it’s nice to see (and hear) the Spartan around for a change! 7. lecou18 says:

Damn Chris – you think this is the end?

  8. thekiwicanuck says:

Not a sausage. And 206 is still relieving.

  9. fireman257 says:

    Any update KC?

  10. TheFireRescue1 says:

And also 207 is in the wrong garage.

  11. TheFireRescue1 says:

Yeah possibly a bit of BAD news i’m not really sure but on 9/9/09 Aucland 206 aka Relief TTL along with Auckland 207 and Remura 211 did a animal rescue job yet again this is 205 off the road. Chris is 205 Currently in service at central?

  12. lecou18 says:

If this is the last of 205, I reckon you’ll have to do a tribute video to the old girl Chris – I’m gonna miss 205 a lot when she gets struck off; Auckland Central won’t be the same.

  13. fireman257 says:

Nice catch mate! Or did your have prior knowledge?

  14. thekiwicanuck says:

Unusual! Wouldn’t it take too long to get it set up in a real fireground? Better than nothing I suppose. I’ve posted some links in the video description for those interested… Thanks S.calz

  15. thekiwicanuck says:

I need to see pictures of that!

  16. scotsfire says:

well do what the norweegins do get a bobcat skider and put it on a rolo pod and get a hook loader for it

  17. thekiwicanuck says:

Hahahahaha, you’re real funny bro! Cool concept, but imagine trying to back that thing in straight through those narrow doors! It’d be even harder than what they’re doing above!

  18. scotsfire says:

well if ure sayin its to big to fit onto the chassy DO A TILLER SCOOP THING aka mount it ot a trailer and get a crew cab wi a pump to pull it

  19. thekiwicanuck says:

Don’t panic, there are still a few other CFs in service around NZ (AKL Airport, Paremoremo Prison, Rotorua etc), and more in museums, but you’re right, 205 is unique and should be preserved!
Good luck finding a Scania long enough for the Aerialscope, the only few I know of are custom made for the larger (90m) Brontos.
Hopefully the legend of the Aerialscope will end happily ever after!

  20. pumper8032 says:

Noooo don’t kill the Mack, please don’t kill the Mack.
They could re-mount the Scope which they do a lot of in the USA, and stick it on something else, an Aerialscope on a Scania……

There’s a good health and safety reason to wear helmets when standing in the middle of the roadway! :-) Particularly at night, where the helmet contributes to the visibility of the member on the road.

  22. thekiwicanuck says:

Maybe for the same reason police officers have to wear their hats – its part of the uniform. Or for quick and easy ID by whoever’s running the scene. But I’m just guessing.
It might pay to check out their website, which is linked on my Channel page.

  23. emergencyfreak says:

y do the fire police have 2 wear helmets when they only doin traffic mangement ?

  24. A1nzfan says:

Yea i know im dreaming lol. And yea a.c.t fire brigades scaina/bronto in aussie is a bloody nice rig. Just auckland needs a double cab as they run a full crew oviously. There was an argument that the type 6 should have a pump. so not sure if thats in the order though.

  25. thekiwicanuck says:

    Thanks mate!
As for the Q, dreams are free! More like a few grand actually…
I won’t mind Aucks getting a Scania “Type 6″ if its a full-on 37 or 44 metre beast of a Bronto like the Aussies have. Those are almost as awesome as 206!
