Performing a practical skills test Called a Restricted Access Test. In this scenario, the fire fighter is trapped in a room with no other means of egress but to bust through a small hole leading to another room. The hole is small enough that the fireman cannot fit through while the SCBA is strapped to his back. The firefighter must first attempt to crawl through with SCBA intact, then they must remove one of the straps and position the pack along their left ribcage. When that doesn’t work the Firefighter must completely remove the SCBA while maintaining air flow connection to mask, place the tank through the hole first, and the crawl through sideways while always maintaining contact with their SCBA air pack. Once on the other side, the firefighter must remain on his knees and put the pack back on and tighten all straps.
