LAV-AD night fire, Iraq

25

Marine Corps light armored vehicles fit for air defense in 2003. With two four-cell pods for stinger missles a 25mm gatling gun and primary target engagement provided by the FLIR TV sight sytem, this vehicle was feared by the enemy and many fell prey to it. Hoorah, devil dogs!

reports were coming out that the gun was no shit cracking the hulls. its alot of stress that hull has to take while firing that gun. also you can maintain a platoon of 25′s for the same cost to maintain one AD

  13. nymarine21 says:

the camera makes it look that way

  14. davec4liberty says:

Yeah I was on the LAV-AD during my enlistment. Shooting the 100 round burst is the best thing I have ever experienced as far as supreme power is concerned.

Too bad this vehicle variant got phased out, but mad props to the marines who used them in the initial invasion of Iraq before the LAV-AD got phased out. Much love. Ooh-rah!!

It’s an optical illusion called a “stroboscopic effect,” the same one that makes wheels look like they’re turning backward when the vehicle moves forward.

The video captures frames or images at a certain rate and can’t keep up with the rate of the images in real life. Each frame of video shows the placement of individual shells in the air, but they capture the image closer and closer to the gun barrel, so it looks like the stream of tracers is going backward.

    Google “wagon-wheel effect.”

    because its going so fast

  17. Studjeff4 says:

why does it look like the bullets are going back into the turret when it’s firing?
