Fire Making on a Rainy Day

Day 2. I hike back out to my camp in pouring rain to attempt to build a fire. This video is shot after 72 + hours of continuous rainfall. I was glad to have the opportunity to practice this essential skill in these conditions.
Video Rating: 4 / 5

Hmmm, I recognise the music at the beggining, is he not an African artist… can’t remember the name.
Nice outdoor adventure : D I enjoyed the video.
if its raining it muust be raining hard if i can see it through the camera too:)
Well done wish I had time for the same
good ole fat lighter knots ,yep its turpentine baybay and keeps skeeters away too! great work man!
Are those Woodland Digital pants your wearing? If so, I own the same pair, and they are great for freely moving in. Nice video too.
My name’s Bear Grills and if your not an ex-green barrette you’ll never make it out alive! And today I’m going to eat something disgusting in order to get some extra vitamins. LOL you rock PackRat556!
Thanks to you and this video i was able to use my favorite word…..OUTSTANDING! great video! good preperation as well.
Where was your ESBIT stove ?? When would be a good time to use it on the hike ??
Also, what would you do on solid rain to put up a fire?
Love your videos~!!
@MOUNTAINOUS Thank you my friend! Looking forward to them!
@DEAMONATOR Are you really saying you think I used lighter fluid or joking? I wasn’t sure…I can assure you, the only think I used was a cotton ball to catch the sparks from the firesteel. That is why I rave about the Strikefore so much b/c it does throw such a great shower of sparks. Lighter fluid would only have defeated my purpose on this outing. I wouldn’t want to cheat myself, or be dishonest with my friends or subscribers.
@PackRat556 I must have missed the part where you threw lighter fluid in the fire pit before lighting it. Half of the fire pit flashed into flames the split second you struck the strikeforce! Maybe it was natural gas seeping up from below..not!
You practice the importantst thing here: Proper preparation.
@standupgun yup us northwestians our born in the rain and die in the rain.
your vids rock. awesome work and alot of fun trying and experimenting with all survival skills. my vids 108-130 is the locations where i will be doing my survival and camping and firearms training in future vids i will do.
enjoyed the vid…thanks!
Pine trees have very dry branches even if they are still attached to the trunk of the tree at lower levels.
Sweedish Firesteel rocks. You can actually dry out some of the surrounding wood with smoke and flame. Thanks for posting.
Nice video well done thank you!
maybe you can pass off a message, boy scouts should make it public that they are a christian organization and will taunt a member of other religions
either that or just shut down.
Thank you so much man! that is a damn good idea and i will deffinately be using this method!!!
Im in the boy scouts in northern ca. and we have red woods and they have needles, it rains 80in a yr, but dry stuff is everywere.under the layers of dead trees. i didnt relize that dry kindling was so hard to find, but u made a good fire.
Hey idk if you know but you can make an improvised candle which u can use to boil water as well… with aluminum foil and ur cotton balls soaked with vasoline.. you fold a piece of aluminum foil in half..put the cotton balls in the middle , fold it on itself again and make a little package type thing, then you take a little of the cotton ball out of it and use it as a wick. it stays lit for a very long time, long enough to boil water plus you can use it as an emergency candle. Take care! =]
Man thats an awsome idea shaving the wood like that! Oh yeah and you probly already do this but if not you should soak your cotton balls in vasoline its the best!
Nice, Living in the rainy pacific northwest like I do, I find this kind of knowledge extremely valuable.
usually walmart has fat wood in the outdoor section just ask the guy if they have it next time you go
man, im almost 23 and i havent gone camping since i was like 10 :/ yeesh lol gotta get on that.
