Basement Fire Engulfs House Due To Frozen Hydrants In Gary Indiana
At 10:35pm on Valentine’s Day GFD was toned out for the smell of smoke at 24th and Tyler, while en route dispatched filled the assignment out to a still. On arrival heavy smoke was visible in the area and shortly after a working house fire was found. While crews made an aggressive attack with tank water they had to stop and wait for a good hydrant. After a positive water source was established the fire was quickly knocked. Nobody was injured at the scene. Great job by GFD!

umm for one there shouldnt have been people on the first floor in a basement fire the fire was clearly in the basement the only way there should have been people on the first floor was to do a primary search thers no reason to put firefighters in jeopardy with the chance of falling through the floor, for two do you have radios? it would be more effective way of communication rather than screaming. it also helps with accountability. Try it ull like it and will often save your own butt
@mabas21 lol
@gdtrfb81 Thats cool, I didn’t know you were a dickhead
@mabas21 My apologies, but I don’t know why you hope for a fire soon…If you’re a real buff, you’d say, “I never want to see a person’s home or business burn to the ground, but if it does, I sure want to be there.” I apologize, I didn’t know you were so sensitive.
@gdtrfb81 I have no clue where you got this from! The fact that I said hope for one soon? In case you didn’t know 90% of the fires in Gary are vacant, I hate when they are occupied. Frankly it drives me nuts when they are occupied, especially when more than half of Gary is vacant. I would never want someones house or business to burn
@mabas21 You hope for people’s home’s to burn to the ground? Very poor character here, Mabas21. I enjoy you’re videos, very educational and show a whole lot of fire activity, but I think you need a reality check.
Basement is rolling
never should have had a crew on the 1st floor while fire was raging in the basement, no backup lines? and no need for yelling for 10 minutes thats why we have 2 way radios, very unproffesional and lucky someone didnt get killed.
they was pulled out im amussing because there was no line on the basement level. that was bad because they had guys on the 1st floor. that 1 line darkened the fire down in the basement they should of had four lines going. 2 on each floor. following an aggressive search. No excuse for the frozen hydrant. just relay da water engine 2 engine and look 4 another source afterwards that would of gave them more time. sry they need more training.
Exactly! I gues they do not have radios as well.
lol another complete loss in gary
correct me if im wrong but if they are pulling out they would be going to a defensive attack but the officer keeps screaming were going offensive ????
Hey Ed, get them out was to pull the guys from the first floor out with the line to knock the fire blowing out the basement. You never want fire under you especially if the floors are bad. If the power is shut down from the pole to the house there is no way you can get shocked unless someone figured out how to steel power. This is common practice! Gas is the same way, if it’s shut down, no risk. Thanks for the comment, hope for one soon. Been 3 days already!
Looks like another vacant arson in Gary. What was that guy yelling about at 1:56 ?
“Pull ‘em out! Pull ‘em out.” What was that, Ed?
Quick knock down when they finally go the water on.
I noticed at 4:40 you close in on the electric feed head. With the house vacant, can those things still shock a guy or are they turned off at the pole?
Same question with the gas meter I saw.
Nice work, as usual!!
HOW FUNNY…..dont we have radio’s….YEA, one per rig, which the officer carries….IF they go in….luckily a lot of us have our own for emergencies! Nice knock considering the difficulties brothers!!! Stay safe always! (funny how a few fires ago we did too much in a vacant house and now we aint quick enough….never satisfied them armchair wanna-be’s!)
Another good job by the brothers in Gary. Considering the conditions, I cant see anyone else doing better.
I would say after they got water it was a quick knock, they made good progress with just the tankwater, but lost it all when the tank was dry. It was a dumpster anyway…Nice work my man!
5-10 minutes after a hydrant was tapped is long to you? That was a 25×75 frame with fire in half, how fast would you like them to go in a vacant house that was clearly falling apart. Come on, think before you type
@Jack177Off yea gary dosent have enough money to afford squad cars let alone gas for them
“After a positive water source was established the fire was quickly knocked.” Quickly must have a different meaning in Gary.
I guess Gary doesn’t have radios…screaming at guys works.
you always have to vent cause if you dont vent you get flash over
why are they venting the fire by breaking the windows i would think the less air the fire gets the better it will be suppressed till u can get water on it
That is one scary department … Every video that features them is chaos …
