i wasnt there and dont know the situation but i was wondering why there wasnt an initial interior attack. it was on the second floor so i would have went in and took the stairs. im not critisizing at all im just curious

@StLFF34 No I know what your saying, not trying to be offensive at all. I just have found that it’s all in the wording to get people to click on the video. I gotcha

  6. StLFF34 says:

MABAS>>>I wasnt implying you didnt know..i believe someone made an inquiry about such…what i cant figure out is why they didnt goto the front of the building and up the stairs instead of the ladder in the back..i wasnt there..im not criticizing…just throwing it out there…

@StLFF34 I know what you are saying about the alarms, just a way to get people interested so theu click to watch the video. As you well know most departments use alarms so fire buffs will click. Check back this weekend for the Cressmore Arms Apartment fire, 24 units lost over the weekend. Incredible video! Stay safe out there

I was on HFD for 12 years before moving on. Hobart doesnt have a “Box” system ie. 1stAlarm, 2ndAlarm..etc..dispatcher dispatches a fire..we would get on the scene..if we needed more help whoever was in charge would specifically ask for what mutual aid they wanted …ie “Batt. 3 to Hobart,I need need an extra engine from Lake Station”.we always pushed for something easier to no avail..MABAS keep up the good work. I love where Im at now, but do miss the guys at HFD…i like keep tabs on them ;)

6 minutes into the fire they actually had a crew make entry.

  10. Flashover842 says:

stretch a line up the stairs…make entry into the involved apartment and knock the fire down. using the handline from the ground outside is simply pushing the fire into the uninvolved areas thus creating more unnecessary fire and smoke damage. an aggressive interior attack on this fire would have saved time, property, and any possible injuries.

That was a very inclusive high quality video. You showed all aspects of the fire attack and rescue operations. Nice job!

msdragon78 Wvwn though she maybe under investigation and no one actually knows for sure, my prayers are with anyone who is suffering, I was raised to only believe in acutality not supposition and even if what you say is truth then she obviously has mental issues and may not be held accountable because of them but that is not here nor there my prayers are with her as i am sure God is looking over her also. I feel pity for those who cannot cope and is a very sad situation to be sure

  13. MsDragon78 says:

Janis, just to let you know shes under investigation for intentionally starting the fire, she made sure everyone in the building was home, a neighbor checked on her and when they walked it she lit the fire! Your prayers are for the wrong person!

  14. janis692 says:

i use to live there and know the person in that unit, she is at the burn unit in loyola and i pray she will be ok though i hear she is in critical condition with burns on her upper torso.

  15. looneym86 says:

They obviuosly didn’t have the resources on first alarm to initiate a reasonably safe interior attack. Smart call by the chief to initially go defensive.

  16. MIoldtimer says:

    That wind looked whicked.

  17. metztruck6 says:

Curb squirters , bad manpower, chief thats on the line = building that burs down

  22. CRonaldo2507 says:

    @RCcustomPD

Hobart is a full time 4 station Department with ems and Lake Station is a 2 station Volunteer with full time ems.
    Portage is full time fire/ems

  23. N44949 says:

nice job guys, love your videos!

  24. RCcustomPD says:

Wow big fire! Was this a Volunteer Company or Paid?

  25. mabas21 says:

@firewacker432 Actually no alarms were transmitted other than the report of the fire and then the request for mutual aid. All four of Hobarts stations were there and Lake Station sent an Engine along with Ambulances from 3 towns
