HAWKESBURY Sirens echoed through the streets of Hawkesbury on Saturday as members of the Hawkesbury Fire Department rushed to the scene of an early afternoon fire. The residence at 190 Regent Street, which is owned by Yvonne Portelance, went up in flames around 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 6. The fire could have been started in the basement by an unattended cigarette, states a clearly shaken Portelance, or maybe by an electrical problem. Thanks to the quick response and hard work by the Hawkesbury Fire Department there were no injuries reported due the fire and there was no noticeable damage to nearby buildings.
